What are the key benefits of évolis?
évolis contains natural active ingredients that have been shown to inhibit FGF5 in laboratory studies. FGF5 is a naturally occurring protein which builds up in the scalp and is associated with hair loss. évolis helps reduce hair loss and hair fall, helping to reverse thinning, and improving hair length, leading to longer, thicker, healthier hair
What is FGF5?
FGF5 is a naturally occurring protein produced in the scalp. Its sole function is to regulate the hair growth cycle by taking hair that is actively growing into the transitional stage, stopping hair growth. Following transition, the hair will rest and then fall out. In 2014 a breakthrough study by scientists at Columbia University in New York confirmed FGF5 as crucial to limiting human hair growth, and showed that in the absence of FGF5 people grew excessively long hair. The excess hair fall seen in hair loss is the result of a shortened growth phase. évolis® inhibits FGF5, so extends the period of active growth and prevents excessive hair fall. Read more here
What happens when I stop using If you decide to stop using évolis?
If you decide to stop using évolis®, the FGF5 inhibiting natural actives will no longer be present. Hair will slowly revert to the previous growth rate and growth cycle.
Where can I buy évolis?
évolis products are available online at www.evolisproducts.com.au and at major pharmacies such as Priceline, Chempro, Superchem and other salons. Please call your local pharmacy to enquire about availability.
I don’t suffer from hair loss but I want longer hair. Will évolis help?
évolis PROMOTE is designed to support growing hair longer by extending the active hair growth stage, so hair stays actively growing for an extended period of time and can grow longer. évolis PROMOTE will also increase the rate of hair growth by around 20%, so hair will grow 20% faster and so will get longer quicker.
How long do I need to use the products before I notice results?
You will need to use évolis for a minimum of 16 weeks or 120 days to notice significant results of hair growth, though signs that évolis is working can be seen much sooner. Results you can expect include:
- Less hair fall in the first 30 days of use
- Short fine hairs visible in thinning areas in 30-60 days of use
- Change in hair texture to smoother and more manageable in 60-90 days of use
- Increased density in 90-120 days of use
- Fine, downy hair texture change to stronger, thicker hair texture in 120+ days of use
It is recommended that continued use of évolis is needed to maintain the results.
If I stop using évolis will I experience excessive hair fall?
If you stop using évolis the naturally occurring protein FGF5 will begin to accumulate in the scalp and will slowly revert to previous levels. This is a gradual, not a sudden, process and will not result in sudden hair fall. If you were experiencing hair fall and thinning before starting évolis, when you stop using évolis your hair will eventually revert back to its previous state. It is recommended to use évolis continuously to inhibit FGF5 and avoid FGF5 accumulating excessively in the scalp to keep hair and scalp healthy and avoid hair fall.
What are the most common side effects of évolis?
There are generally no side effects from using évolis. People who suffer from a skin condition such as eczema, psoriasis or sensitive skin may experience irritation and/or a dry, itchy scalp.
Can I use it if I have eczema, psoriasis or any skin condition?
If you suffer from a skin condition such as eczema, psoriasis or sensitive skin we recommend you do a spot test to ensure no irritation will occur before proceeding with daily use of the product. If irritation should occur cease using the product immediately, if symptoms persist consult your health care professional. If in doubt, please consult your doctor before using the product. Always read the label, use only as directed.
How old do I have to be to use évolis?
évolis can be used at any age. évolis works by inhibiting FGF5, a natural protein that is produced in the scalp to regulate the hair growth cycle and take hair from the active growth stage into the transitional stage. Inhibiting FGF5 allows hair to stay in the stage of active growth for longer, resulting in less hair fall, more hair density, increased hair length and improved manageability. Because évolis has natural actives and antioxidants and no known side effects, it can be safely used to support the hair growth cycle at any age.
What types of hair loss will évolis help?
All types of hair loss are due to a disturbance in the normal hair growth cycle. Hair usually grows in 3 main stages, a period of active growth which lasts between 2-7 years, followed by a period of transition when the hair stops growing but remains in the follicle which lasts around 2 weeks, followed by a period of rest when the follicle is dormant. After dormancy, the follicle regenerates and the cycle begins again when hair starts to grow actively. When the hair growth cycle is disturbed, less hair is in active growth stage and more hair falls out, creating thinner hair; hair also stays dormant for longer. FGF5 is a naturally occurring protein made in the scalp which pushes hair from the active growth stage into transition. évolis inhibits FGF5, so hair stays actively growing for longer. évolis will help all types of hair loss where the hair growth cycle has been disrupted.
This will include:
- Hair loss due to hormonal activity, menopause, childbirth
- Hair loss due to chemotherapy
- Hair loss due to illness, fever
- Hair loss due to stress and lifestyle
- Androgenic Alopecia or Male Pattern Baldness
- Telogen Effluvium
- Anagen Effluvium
How about alopecia areata, totalis and universalis?
These types of alopecia are not caused by a disruption in the hair growth cycle. These types of hair loss are due to an autoimmune disorder, where the body treats the hair as a foreign body and rejects the hair, resulting in hair loss. A trichologist or dermatologist must treat this type of hair loss. Once the underlying cause has been treated, évolis can be used to help support hair growth and prevent buildup of FGF5 to ensure hair grows in the best possible environment.
Is évolis tonic natural and animal cruelty-free?
évolis® products are based on predominately natural ingredients and have not been tested on animals. Each évolis® tonic is made in Australia and clinically tested to pharmaceutical standards to ensure the highest quality of each product for the treatment of hair loss and thinning.
Professional Range FAQs
How long will one set of évolis Shampoo, Conditioner, Activator and Mask last me?
évolis 50ml Activators contain approximately 180 applications and will last between 4-6 weeks based on recommended twice daily, morning and evening application. évolis 250ml shampoos and conditioners should last for around 8 weeks with regular use, usually every day or every other day.
How should I apply it for best results and how often?
évolis REVERSE, PROMOTE and PREVENT Systems should be used in the following way:
évolis REVERSE, PREVENT or PROMOTE Shampoo and Conditioner
Use in place of your regular shampoo with your usual frequency. No need to change your regular routine
évolis REVERSE, PREVENT or PROMOTE Activator
Use twice per day every day, morning and evening. Apply evenly to wet or dry scalp. Using the unique targeted applicator, touch the applicator to one side on top of the scalp and evacuate the applicator while moving the applicator back and forth and working back from the front hairline towards the crown of your head. Repeat on the other side. évolis Activator dries very quickly and leaves no residue, leaving hair and scalp light and fresh, so can be used pre or post styling, on wet, damp or dry scalp.
évolis REVERSE or PROMOTE Mask
Use weekly on longer, colored or chemically treated hair that needs deep moisturization. Apply to shampooed, towel dried hair and leave for a minimum of 10 minutes, then rinse. Alternatively, évolis REVERSE or PROMOTE Mask can be used as an overnight treatment on clean, dry hair. Apply sparingly one hour before bedtime to allow Mask to absorb and shampoo and condition as usual in the morning.
Is évolis sulfate free?
All évolis formulas are sulfate free, so can be used on colored hair.
Can I use évolis Activator with my normal shampoo and conditioner?
évolis activator can be used in conjunction with regular shampoos, conditioners or other hair care products as a targeted scalp treatment, though it is recommended to use the accompanying évolis Shampoo and Conditioner to ensure maximum conditioning benefits for the hair. Each évolis system, REVERSE, PROMOTE and PREVENT, contains the same FGF5 inhibitors and active ingredients as the évolis Activator in that range.
Should men and women use different évolis systems?
All three évolis systems are suitable for both men and women because évolis works on the hair growth cycle and uses natural actives shown to inhibit FGF5 in laboratory studies. FGF5 is a natural protein responsible for regulating the hair growth cycle in both men and women, so both men and women can safely and effectively use évolis. Simply choose from évolis REVERSE, PREVENT or PROMOTE, whichever is the right system for your hair.
Is évolis suitable for all hair types?
évolis products are suitable for all hair types and all ethnicities, and will not adversely affect the natural color or texture. évolis is also safe to use on colored hair, hair that has been straightened or chemically treated hair.
My hair is coloured regularly. Can I use évolis or will it fade my color?
If your hair is coloured you can use évolis without fear of color fade. All évolis products are gentle enough to be used on hair that is colored or lightened and will not fade colour. In fact, évolis shampoos and conditioners are sulfate free so are ideal to use on coloured, lightened, straightened or hair treated with any type of chemical process.
What is the difference between the évolis product ranges Reverse, Promote and Prevent?
évolis REVERSE is targeted at men and women who are experiencing hair loss and thinning hair. This may present itself for women as having less hair in a ponytail, noticing hair fall when shampooing, combing or brushing hair, having areas of the head where the scalp can be seen through the hair or having less hair at the front hairline or on top of the head. Men may be experiencing thinning areas in the traditional male pattern of hair loss, at the front hairline and at the crown, and the miniaturization of hair where hair of normal thickness and texture is replaced by soft downy hair, usually at the crown and front hairline, while hair elsewhere on the head appears thicker and the texture unchanged. The system consists of évolis REVERSE Shampoo, Conditioner and Activator.
évolis PREVENT is targeted at addressing hair loss before it starts and aimed at maintaining scalp and hair health to ensure healthy, shiny, manageable hair for both men and women, but primarily for men who have a family history of hair issues. évolis PREVENT has special ingredients Lycium Barbarum or gojiberry extract and Garcinia Mangostana Peel or mangosteen fruit extract in addition to FGF5 inhibitors Sanguisorba officinalis, Rosa multiflora and Swertia chirata. The system consists of évolis PREVENT Shampoo, Conditioner and Activator.
évolis PROMOTE is targeted at men and women who want to increase the length and thickness of their hair. Inhibiting FGF5 is shown to keep the hair in the active stage of growth for an extended period of time, allowing the hair to grow longer. In addition to FGF5 inhibitors Sanguisorba officinalis, Rosa multiflora and Swertia chirata, PROMOTE has special ingredient Adansonia digitata, or Baobab, designed to moisturize and care for hair and maintain the condition of hair, so hair stays manageable and shiny as it grows longer. The system consists of évolis Promote Shampoo, Conditioner, and Activator.
How do I determine which range of évolis products are best for me?
Simply choose the system that suits the needs of your hair and the results that you would like to see.
Are you experiencing hair loss and unmanageable hair? Use évolis REVERSE.
Are you anticipating having thinning hair because of family history? Use évolis PREVENT.
Does your hair grow slowly and you want longer, thicker hair? Use évolis PROMOTE.

Pharmacy Range FAQs
Does évolis® tonic treat hair loss?
Yes, multiple clinical and scientific studies have demonstrated the technology behind évolis® lead to a 75% reduction in hair loss and a 40.2% increase in the number of growing hair follicles compared to a placebo treatment in 4 months.
Why is évolis a breakthrough technology?
There haven’t been any new clinically validated topical hair loss treatments in the nearly 30 years since Minoxidil-based products first appeared on the market. Breakthrough scientific studies at Columbia University have since validated the protein FGF5 is the key regulator of the hair growth cycle. Blocking FGF5 represents a radical new way to promote hair growth and help treat hair loss. Advangen has developed évolis®, the first and only product that blocks FGF5; the body’s signal to stop hair follicles growing.
How should I apply it for best results and how often?
Use twice per day every day, morning and evening. Apply evenly to wet or dry scalp. Using the unique targeted applicator, touch the tip to one side on top of the scalp and slowly evacuate the applicator while moving it back and forth, working back from the front hairline towards the crown of your head. Repeat on the other side. An extra application targeting thinning areas, e.g. temples or crown, may also be beneficial. évolis® tonic dries very quickly and leaves no residue, leaving hair and scalp light and fresh, so it can be used pre or post styling, on wet, damp or dry scalp.
What are the key active ingredients used in the product?
évolis® contains active ingredients that have been shown to inhibit FGF5 in laboratory studies. évolis® harnesses natural botanical extracts including Sanguisorba officinalis (great burnet) Rosa multiflora (Japanese tea rose) and Swertia chirata (gentian herb).
What is the difference between the tonic for men and women?
évolis® works on the hair growth cycle by harnessing the activity of natural extracts that inhibit FGF5. FGF5 is a natural protein responsible for regulating the hair growth cycle in men and women, so both can safely and effectively use évolis®. The underlying mechanism of action is the same in both the men's and women's tonics. The active botanicals that inhibit the FGF5 protein are in equal proportions. The difference is only in the fragrance, which do not constitute any discernible difference in the function of the product.
Can I use évolis® if I have eczema, psoriasis or any skin condition?
If you suffer from a skin condition such as eczema, psoriasis or sensitive skin we recommend you do a spot test to ensure no irritation occurs before proceeding with daily use of the product. If irritation should occur, cease using the product immediately and if symptoms persist consult your health care professional. If in doubt, please consult your doctor before using the product. Always read the label, use only as directed.
